Chris Froome will cycle across the Mediterranean for charity, alongside Jakob Fuglsang and Filippo Pozzato, on June 19.

What is the event?

The event, called Together Crossing for the Pelagos, is a 225km ride from Viareggio in Italy to Monaco.

Why is Chris Froome participating?

Chris Froome, a 41-year-old four-time Tour de France winner, is participating in the event to raise money for the Princess Charlène of Monaco Foundation and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

The ride will take place on special 'water bikes' and will go through the Pelagos Sanctuary, a protected marine area.

What is the goal of the event?

The goal of the event is to raise public awareness about water safety and support educational programmes dedicated to drowning prevention.

Claudio Fantin, operational manager at Scicon Sports, said the event holds a special place in the history of the company.

Chris Froome has not raced since last August and appears to be without a team, but he has been keeping busy with other activities, including a Gran Fondo in Panama.

The event is supported by sunglass brand Scicon Sports and will feature eight teams with four riders on each.

Princess Charlène said the event aims to inspire commitment and promote the protection of the Mediterranean.

Chris Froome's future in cycling is still uncertain, but he has said that people will know soon enough.
